Born to Rise

In the lush, culturally rich parish of St. Mary, Jamaica, I was born with a dream — not just for myself, but for the people around me. My name is Kenniesha Burrell, and this is the first chapter of my story. A story of hope, heartbreak, purpose, and power. A story that is still being written.

I attended one of Jamaica’s most traditional and prominent high schools, where the seeds of ambition were planted in fertile ground. Life wasn’t always easy, but I was determined to shine, not just for myself — but for others who needed a voice.

This is Part One, and I’m ready to share the journey — the struggles, the fears, the setbacks, and the comebacks.

Academic Brilliance and Lifelong Growth

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with Honours and am currently pursuing a Master’s in Curriculum Studies. I’m also qualified in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing, which has helped me in leadership, entrepreneurship, and training.

I am proud to be a Certified Emergency Medical Technician, trained to act in moments of crisis. I’m also a Literacy Specialist, passionate about building confident readers and thinkers. Additionally, I’m certified in course design and employee training, equipping professionals and organizations for lasting growth.

Authorship, Poetry, and Storytelling

To date, I’ve authored five books and published numerous articles that dive deep into truth, healing, and empowerment. I write poems, dub poetry, and plays that give voice to the voiceless and bring life to the unheard. Through storytelling, I pour light into dark places and create safe spaces for people to see themselves, survive, and soar.

My Role as a Mother

Above all titles, my most sacred role is being a mother of two boys, both diagnosed with mild autism. Their strength is my strength. Their journey has shaped me into a resilient, nurturing, and fiercely protective advocate. I fight not just for them — but for every child with special needs who deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.

Community Building with Heart

My life is rooted in service. From back-to-school treats to Labour Day projects, to organizing successful community events, I’ve always believed that greatness means giving back. Community isn’t something I do — it’s who I am.

Anchored in Legacy and Inspiration

One of my greatest inspirations is Terri-Karelle — a true representation of grace, intelligence, and fearless authenticity. She reminds me that your story is your strength, and your voice is your power.

In moments of reflection, I turn to the deep, meditative music of I-Octane — songs that speak to the soul, carry messages of perseverance, and guide me back to center. And when I want to feel connected to my roots, I play 50s and 60s music — memories of my late father flooding my heart, reminding me of the love that raised me.

A Word for You — The One Who’s Struggling

Let me take a moment and speak directly to your heart.

Sometimes, even the best of us fall off track. Even with a good heart and the purest intentions, life can knock you down. People will misunderstand you. Some will hurt you. Some will have fun without you. And some seasons will feel too heavy to carry.

But don’t lose hope. Don’t lose faith. God is still right there beside you — even in the silence, even in the shadows. He didn’t bring you this far just to leave you here. He sees the tears you cry in secret. He hears the prayers you’re too tired to whisper.

Stop watching everything around you. Stop measuring your worth by someone else’s story. Stay focused. Be the best version of you. Live a life that is honest, pure, and filled with purpose. Not for perfection — but for peace.

You only get one day at a time. So today, make it count. Breathe. Pray. Push forward. Your breakthrough is closer than you think.

Just the Beginning

This is only Part One of my journey. I have so much more to share — the highs, the lows, the lessons, the raw truths. I share not to boast, but to heal, to encourage, and to connect with those who feel like giving up.

If you’ve read this far, thank you — maybe, just maybe, you’re a part of my story too.

Stay with me. There’s more to come
